Royal Blog Tour # 2 : In This Life PH Blog Tour

This review is exclusive for the PH In This Life Blog tour made possible by Raf of  The Royal Polar Bear Reads and JM of Book Freak Revelations and Christine Brae herself of course.

It started out so simply. Anna runs away to Thailand, drags her best friend Dante with her and spends a few weeks away, taking on other people’s problems while getting away from her own.  She meets the enigmatic Jude Grayson, and for as long as it’s clear to both of them that it ends when they leave, she thinks she’s got the perfect fling planned out.
Or does she?
Anna returns home to find that her life is no longer the way it once was, and that she can’t stop thinking about him. She learns through tragedy that nothing she’s ever believed in has turned out to be true. The worst part? The people she loved were keeping a secret from her. And that no matter what she does, no matter how hard she fights against it, every path she takes keeps leading her back to Jude.
This is a story about love, found in a faraway place by two very unlikely people. It is also a story about friendship and loyalty and fighting for what you have despite the illogical mystery of fate. And with the struggle between morality and guilt, faith and acceptance, there comes a learning that even the best-laid plans are powerless against the alignment of the universe.
From the beaches of Thailand to the streets of New York, three friends, Anna, Dante, and Jude will learn the hard way that once providence steps in, there is nothing in the world that can change what is truly meant to be.

Before I start this book talk. Just let me start with a little history between me and Christine.

I first knew her books through Jem, a friend of ours. He persuaded me to read her book The Light in the Wound. And to be completely honest I didn’t love it. The writing was good, yes, but too much romance for me. So I didn’t read the second book anymore. Then she came to the Philippines for the CTC in PH and I decided to buy her 2nd book for it to be signed by her. And in that brief time that I met her in that signing I felt how kind she is. So when In This Life announced that it will have a blog tour, I didn’t hesitate to join. And I’m glad I did.

PS. The eArc was given in exchange for a review and in no way influences my views about the book because really who can? I’m as hard headed as a rock.

If you have not read the book please refrain from reading this part and just scroll down to my rating and other announcements below. Thank you! 😘

Writing. Christine has always been a good writer. No purple prose. No over the top description of every little thing and just outright direct to the point attack. The lines this book are actually amazing. There are so many highlights in my ereader you cannot even imagine. I also loved that there are POVs of Anna and Jude so I can know what the both pf them think and not just one side. I would have also liked a POV from Dante but maybe that’s asking too much. I’m team Dante by the way. He may have lied but I still love him.

This book tackled a sensitive topic because we Filipinos are extremely religous. This kind of relationship is a scandal for most of us even though he is not a priest yet. I am sure we all can agree that we understood the struggle of Jude in choosing between Anna and God and also Anna for wanting Jude and wanting him to push through his vocation. But I loved how Jude handled it. I loved how his family handled it. They were very supportive and it just goes to show that there are still families out there that will support ypu whatever you want to do with your life and doesn’t have the need to punish you every time you do something that you liked but they didn’t. Strong family ties has always been present in the Filipino household and I think that this is what those ties mean. To be able to stick up and support the one you love even if it has the chance to end up badly for all of you. Families need to support each other if it means they will be happy.

Anna. Anna’s character is strong but also fragile. Her connection with Jude at Thailand is instant and you coukd already tell that they will end up together whatever happened. The way she took bad news are one of my concerns about her. Because everytime she hears a bad news she just lashes out and doesn’t even stop for a second to think of a rational thing to do. Yes I know it’s painful but consider first your actions because someone important to you may get hurt too because of them

Jude. I love him don’t get me wrong. I’m Team Dante for a reason but that doesn’t mean that I don’t love Jude for Anna. It’s just that the first time he felt that he couldn’t live without Anna, he should have already left the church because God doesn’t deserve to be served in a self imposed guilt. He can serve God in other ways and at the same time saving him and Anna and Dante that 5 years of pain.

Dante. Oh Dante. He shouldn’t have lied to Anna. If he just told her the truth then the game will be fair and they will be both given an equal chance. I love him for sacrificing and respecting himself enough to give Anna time though. He wanted her to be happy even if he needs to let her go and find herself. And I also think that he’s actually preparing Anna because with/without the crash, he will die. HE didn’t say to Anna that he will is sick because she’ll just choose him to take care of him and never really follow her heart.

Story. At first it was quite predictable but on the second half I didn’t have a clue on what will happen anymore. I just outright didn’t know who Anna really loves anymore. I aslo love that it showed love isn’t always enough. They needed to make decisions not based entirely to what they feel at the moment but also what it would result in the future. They didn’t think for just now but also for what will be the consequences of their decision and for that I am thankful because if they didn’t took the time to decide and just outright jump to a relationship right away I would have lost it.

I highly recommend this book to people who are having difficulty in choosing things and making decisions because Christine showed in this book that no matter what you do you should always consider what you want and what makes your spark grow brighter in making any decisions that will easilly make or break you.

4 Royal Stars because this shows that no matter what happens if you truely are for each other, no amount of unhappiness and messed up decisions will keep you apart.
PS. This is actually a 4.5 so keep that in mind, highly recommended! Good job, Christine!
