Original Title : The Moth and the Flame
It started as playful, if barbed, banter before rising to a fateful wager with a most notorious rake—the Captain of the Guard, Jalal al-Khoury—who may have finally met his match in a lovely, if haughty, handmaiden, Despina. But she, too, seems to have met her match in the handsome Jalal. What begins as a tempestuous battle of will and wit in short order becomes a passionate affair spurred on by tragedy of the worst kind.
Another novella *sighs because I miss Khalid so much just give me the sequel already*
This is a short story about Jalal and Despina, which I totally ship with all my heart next to me and Khalid, and I absolutely love it! The chemistry between these two strong characters are above the roof. We also saw a glimpse of the first calipha and the longing she felt for Khalid that eventually made her end her own life.
The scenes of Jalal and Despina are so romantic even if they are bickering all the time. You can see the shift between their feelings for each other. I would have personally wanted a lot of actiom between these two but Renee deprived me of that and just jumped to Despina being pregnant. Am I the only one who felt so heartbroken when Jalal clung to Despina for comfort? I was equally touched and sad I felt so in love.
PS. I NEED MORE KHALID, RENEE.
In conclusion I give this book 4 royal stars because 5 will only be given if I had just a little glimpse of mi Khalid but no no Renee had to deprive me. I would have accepted a glimpse or a side actipn but no she didn’t give me anything. I am so sad.
Thank you guys for reading! 😘
