Nothing but death can keep eighteen-year-old Gideon Blake from achieving his goal of becoming a U.S. Army Ranger. As it turns out, it does.
While recovering from the accident that most definitely killed him, Gideon finds himself with strange new powers and a bizarre cuff he can’t remove. His death has brought to life his real destiny. He has become War, one of the legendary four horsemen of the apocalypse.
Over the coming weeks, he and the other horsemen—Conquest, Famine, and Death—are brought together by a beautiful but frustratingly secretive girl to help save humanity from an ancient evil on the emergence.
Now—bound, bloodied, and drugged—Gideon is interrogated by the authorities about his role in a battle that has become an international incident. If he stands any chance of saving his friends and the girl he’s fallen for—not to mention all of humankind—he needs to convince the skeptical government officials the world is in imminent danger.
But will anyone believe him?
For the non spoilery part of the review, this is what I want to say. The book has this awesome plot and story line, great excecution and cliffhanger ending. I dived into the book knowing absolutely nothing and I must admit I was surprised and had to do research because my knowledge on the topic was scarce. I loved the flow of thought of the story and the way Rossi described what was happening in vivid details that you will feel the exact same thing that was happening in the story. The subtle way of introducing all the characters without making it a boring story was a good trait of the book. I must admit that I had a little bit of a struggle at first because it was starting a bit slow but afterwards I got over it. I was a bit bothered with the romance angle because it seemed a little forced and instalove and if you know me I hate instaloves. I just wanted to read a book without a romance angle but unfortunately this book just had to have a love angle. Anyways. I still liked it. Highly recommended for readers who love fantasy books.
Giving this book a barely 4 royal stars. Should have been a 3.5 but bumped it up to 4 because I love the plot and I have high hopes for the sequel.
Okay so here’s what I think in a more detailed version. Gideon is a very smart but at the same time dumb character. He is so naive and crazy for Daryn 3 seconds into meeting her. Every dumb decision he made was because he wanted to preotect Daryn who obviously can protect herself just fine. I love Sebastian! He balances out everyone and seems to be the only one using his mind. He’s ready to rescue anyone and everyone. I didn’t connect to Jode and Marcus that much maybe because I was being to annoyed by Gideon and Daryn. Nevertheless I still loved the gang and would like to see them complete again because Bas! 😐
That’s all! Thanks for reading! ;)😚
