First of all, I would like to say that rating a book is a very subjective way to define a book’s quality because everyone has different opinions, thus resulting to different views of a certain story. So if ever I have written a review that you do not agree with, please just respect it because as they say one cannot please all.
1 star = Please try harder
As much as possible I wouldn’t want to give a 1 star review to any book because I believe that a book is made with hard work and a lot of time and effort is invested to it so we should always give A for effort.
2 stars = Needs improvement.
The book has potential but needs a little more push. In my standards it may be bad plot good writing or good plat bad writing. For example,
I gave this book 2 stars not because of bad writing but because of bad plot. I don’t think the story has a real purpose and it really bothers me that the book seem to put suicide in a pedestal and use it as a revenge. That is just pure wrong *shaking my head*
3 stars = Passable
This means to me that I liked it but I didn’t love it. It’s just okay. I have given so many books 3 stars but this may be on top of the list,
I have a love hate relationship with this trilogy because the plot is just so fantastic and the writing is very good but what happened as the story goes on just doesn’t make any sense and did not justify that it is just not another dystopian YA novel. I hated that it had a very promising start but just ended that way. Character growth is a very important factor in which I decide whether I liked the book or not because I read to learn. So if I read a book and I didn’t learn from it and instead it just fucked me up some more, then the book doesn’t deserve my praise.
4 stars = Well done, you.
The author should give him/herself a pat in the back because I loved your book. You gave me just the right amount of everything I liked in a book and didn’t drown me In it.You may have a flaw or two but I will let it pass because the goods outbalance the bad. Example is,
I loved it to the point that I may or may not have hoped of having a deaf lover. HAHA! Books in these category I liked enough to swoon every time I see the book or go gaga over it when somebody said they have read it already.
5 stars = Approved by the Queen
I always save my 5. I will give away my 4 if I really liked a book but the 5 is only given to the books that marked me in a different way. Books I have given 5 stars are the books that shaped who I am and the books that I have related to in an optimum level. These books will be the first ones to be picked up when my house is on fire and I can only save a few of my babies ( knock on wood that doesn’t happen ever). I will feature these books on another post because they deserve so much more but here are some of them.
Sometimes I may add an extra .5 star for a character or scene that I really like. For example,
This book for me is a solid 4 stars but since Raffe is calling out to me then I gave it a 4.5 stars.
So I will be basing my book reviews to this system and I hope you all will be guided accordingly.
